Al LaMonaca (Calgary, Canada) is a folk and bluegrass musician, educator, and bandleader known for his driving rhythm, tasteful picking, and community-minded spirit. Al began playing guitar at age 11, and got hooked on bluegrass after hearing a street busker on five-string banjo. He’s made several band recordings and now performs on guitar, banjo, mandolin, and dobro with the 9th Avenue All-Stars and Crooked Path. Since 2016, he has taught private students and led workshops at FAMI Acoustic Camp, Shady Grove Bluegrass Festival, and Blueberry Bluegrass Festival, helping players of all levels find their footing in traditional music.
