Bill Fahy (Rome, NY) has been a performer and teacher in the Central NY region since 1998. He plays guitar, mandolin, old-time banjo, bass and “fiddles with the fiddle.” His current bands include the Summit Park Rangers (bluegrass), Grass Roots (bluegrass) and Mighty Craic (Celtic and old time), with two CDs both containing his original songs. He’s also president of the Mohawk Valley Bluegrass Association and leads monthly jam sessions and the Community Band.  He says, “I teach with a focus on fun, steady improvement, and playing with others.”

“Learning from Bill has been an inspiring experience. He’s patient and flexible and has the ability to teach and play multiple instruments. Bill clearly loves music and his light-hearted approach makes it fun.”
“He can effectively teach students of all skill levels. His approach is particularly helpful in learning the basics and gaining a solid foundation in technique. He quickly helped me gain the basic skills to productively participate in camps and festivals. He is an excellent and inclusive leader, sensitive to different skill levels, and careful to provide learning opportunities and fun for everyone.”
“Bill was methodical, very patient, and thorough in his instruction. He listened to where each of us wanted to go and helped us to get there, even when our paths diverged.”
“Bill has a passion for not only playing bluegrass in several bands but also for keeping it alive in our community.”

Been playing self-taught 5-string banjo since 1983, but only played with others maybe 6 times. I dust it off every couple years & re-learn it. I have and learned to use Scruggs tuners. Lived in Marcy from 1973-1996, now in Phoenix NY. Everything I learn on banjo is from tablature or Janet Davis cassettes. When playing with guitar, I try to see what chord they’re playing, then play the same chord. Jammed ONE time with CNY Bluegrass Ass’n when they played near me, just outside Phoenix NY.
