Cade Thacker (Roswell, GA) was born and raised in Georgia and came up in the jam band tradition of Grateful Dead and the Allman Brothers. In college he heard a Garcia/Grisman album and “Old and in the Way” and bought a mandolin and never looked back. Cade says he came to bluegrass for the music, but stayed for the community! He loves playing mandolin, guitar, bass and fiddle. Cade is founder of the Roswell Music Jam, while also employed as an IT professional.

Joe Sewards (Cumming, GA) has been playing guitar for most of his life, plays upright and electric bass, and has taught music for years. He’s performed in bands in Chillicothe, OH, St. Augustine, FL and DeLand, FL as well as teaching horticulture at the University of Florida, training master gardeners, and serving as a county extension agent. For 10 years Joe had a weekly radio show, “The Sunday Afternoon Breakdown” on WFCF in St. Augustine, playing a mix of bluegrass and old time music. Since moving to Cumming in 2022 he helps lead the Roswell Music Jam with Cade Thacker.

“Joe has a built-in passion for music. He’s very knowledgeable, patient and enthusiastic. He made learning fun.”
“Cade is knowledgeable about all of the different instruments and how each fits in a jam. He is the reason I am so excited about bluegrass.”
“Cade is a treasure, a natural encourager! It’s obvious he loves teaching and playing music. In a short amount of time I have learned a lot. I can’t help but smile every week.”
“Joe is a very effective teacher; prepared, well organized, clearly passionate, and a very effective communicator.”
“As a beginner I found Joe to be knowledgeable, very helpful, and patient. He explains how a jam should go, he’s able to answer questions on topics including jam etiquette, instrument information and song leading. and makes no one feel pressured to lead if they aren’t ready.”
“Cade has an enthusiastic, positive attitude that really adds to the enjoyment of learning to make music with others. I can’t express how much Cade’s encouragement and understanding of the challenges for a beginner student has meant to me! Not only is he super musically talented, his enthusiasm and excitement just spills over to everyone!”
