A Nashville native, at age 6 Chuck Thompson (Old Hickory, TN) would go with his mother to hear Chet Atkins. At 16 he got a guitar and started playing bluegrass, country and folk. Chuck was commissioned a Naval Officer in 1982 and played at many ports of call. While in Richmond, VA and in Nashville, he formed and played in church bands. Since 2007 he has taught guitar for Guitars4Vets. Chuck became interested in building electric harp guitars and now co-owns Uncommon Guitars and represents Emeralds Guitars. Now retired, he and his wife take their Winnebago to festivals, campgrounds and national parks spreading the word of bluegrass jamming.
“Chuck’s style of teaching is second to none. His patience and ability to show me how to learn is magical.”
“Chuck has an incredible gift for teaching. His classes seem like play but there is a lot of serious learning going on. I was already an intermediate student, but I learned something from every class, plus had a lot of fun doing it!”
“Chuck puts a lot of thought into how he presents the material. It has been a great experience. He’s very patient and always encouraging.”
