Jodi Harbin (Norris, TN) is a career musician who teaches mandolin, guitar, banjo and bass. She was the founder of the Colorado bluegrass band, Lonesome Traveler, and has continued her involvement in the bluegrass community after moving to the Knoxville area. She now performs with several groups in East Tennessee including The Museum of Appalachia Band, and with her husband Tim Harbin. Working with Steve Kaufman at his camp every summer has exposed her to a wide range of teachers and teaching materials on all the bluegrass instruments. Leslie Dare & Susan West (Raleigh, NC) both grew up with music but after not playing for many years, re-discovered the joys of music and the bluegrass community at camps run by Pete and Joan Wernick. They have found great synergy teaching together, helping others with the essentials of bluegrass jamming. Both play guitar and bass, and Susan also plays mandolin and clawhammer banjo. They are active in the Raleigh area’s jamming scene including the local chapter of The Handsome Ladies.

“Jodi is so much fun to work with. She is a great teacher and always inspires me to learn more.”

“Susan and Leslie’s warm & welcoming teaching style helped me do something a little scary in each class which made me a better player.”

“I feel so much better equipped to jam now. Y’all are the best!”

“Susan West and Leslie Dare are the best group music instructors I’ve ever experienced. I went from feeling nervous/uncomfortable about taking breaks and improvising, to feeling confident and capable.”

“Leslie and Susan were so organized and helpful. They do a great job of gently urging a student to try something new. I learned a lot and had a great time.”
“Jodi did an excellent job of engaging everyone and making us feel safe. Positive fun atmosphere.”
“Lots of fun and lots of learning. Thank you for promoting and teaching how to play music with friends- a great joy.”
“Jodi has a wealth of talent, vast music knowledge but more importantly a passion for teaching, as well as compassion, flexibility and humor.”
