Jam with the Pros” Level 2 Bluegrass Camp with Nu-Blu!

Nu-Blu: Justin Harrison, Carolyn and Daniel Routh, Austin Hefflefinger

This “Level 2” camp combines the Wernick Method approach to bluegrass teamwork with the expertise and involvement of the award-winning professional bluegrass group, Nu-Blu. With small group jams with “the pros”, breakout sessions by instrument, and individual instruction, experienced jammers will take advantage of a rare opportunity to play shoulder-to-shoulder with people who do it for a living — a dive into rhythmic cohesion, drive, clarity, and technique variations, all based on bluegrass-style rhythm. Developed by popular Wernick Method teacher Larry Kernagis and Nu-Blu, this camp offers you the unique experience of being like a band member, so that you can “FEEL” the difference in the rhythm, not just hear it.

The teaching is structured around the concept of playing with the proper rhythm and how that relates to your instrument and the others in the jam, as well as vocals and phrasing. You will learn the subtle differences and a pinpoint approach to each instrument and its role in the total sound of a song.

Includes special concert at the end of the event. Don’t miss this chance to “Jam with the Pros” — sign up and “Let’s Pick!” Contact Leslie & Susan for more info.

Raleigh, NC

Leslie Dare & Susan West have found great synergy in working together to teach others the essentials of bluegrass jamming. Both grew up with music but after being musically inactive for many years, both joined the bluegrass community through their experiences at camps run by Pete and Joan Wernick, re-discovering the joys of music later in life. Leslie plays guitar and Susan plays mandolin, bass, and guitar. They are both active in the Raleigh, NC-area jamming scene, including regular participation with the Raleigh chapter of the Handsome Ladies.

“Susan and Leslie’s warm & welcoming teaching style helped me do something a little scary in each class which made me a better player.”
“Leslie is a talented, welcoming leader who makes jamming fun for everyone, regardless of their level of proficiency.”
“The most enjoyable learning experience I have ever had.”
“I feel so much better equipped to jam now. Y’all are the best!”
“Susan West and Leslie Dare are the best group music instructors I’ve ever experienced. I went from feeling nervous/uncomfortable about taking breaks and improvising, to feeling confident and capable.”
“Leslie and Susan were so organized and helpful. They do a great job of gently urging a student to try something new. I learned a lot and had a great time.”
