Liz Wolfe (New York, NY) is a lifelong musician and dedicated educator with years of experience. She is deeply involved in the New York City bluegrass scene, organizing and leading jams, and helping beginners gain confidence. Her website lists bluegrass jams all over the New York area. As a vocalist, she has sung and performed around the city and received training from Broadway coach Rona Leslie. Liz plays guitar and ukulele, and created a popular ukulele course and songbook. With a strong community presence and a passion for expanding the joy of bluegrass, she’s eager to inspire students to learn to jam.

Scott Hopkins (Delanson, NY) grew up hearing bluegrass recordings in his home. At 15 he took up banjo and also joined the school band on tuba, fully immersing himself in the study of music. Scott received music education degrees from Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam and the University of Connecticut, winning the Crane Concerto Competition on tuba. Scott is a school band teacher and has continued to play banjo in bands in New York and Vermont. He currently performs with the Upstate Bluegrass Band and has released an acclaimed banjo recording, using his skills as composer, arranger, producer and engineer.

“I feel so much more confident playing with others after attending Liz’s jam.”
Scott’s teaching style was very relaxed and engaging. He ALWAYS took time to ensure that things were organized and directed toward an outcome. He has a natural ability to make you feel that you CAN accomplish the myraid of small challenges.
“Scott blends just the right amount of silly with serious to create a learning experience that’s thorough AND fun!”
“Liz helped me to figure out the best keys for my songs and it’s so much easier to sing.”
“I got much better at leading songs with Liz’s help. She made sure everyone in the circle felt comfortable and included.”
“Scott is an absolutely terrific musician, but he’s an even better instructor!”
Scott was so sensitive, understanding and patient with a student who exhibited limited skills. He stayed with him, delicately pushed him, and truly helped this student believe in himself.
“Liz’s passion about bluegrass is evident.  She puts a lot of energy into bringing people together.”
“Liz was amazing. Got me to lead on the very last jam with my voice, which I didn’t even know was possible.”
“Scott kept things moving along at a comfortable pace.”
